The nectar basin is able to hold 14 fl oz / 1.75 cups of nectar total. If you make your own nectar, we recommend 1.5 Cups of water with 6 Tbsp of refined white sugar as it makes the perfect amount to fill your feeder without having extra that is wasted.
We recommend that you clean the nectar basin at least every second time you refill it to prevent growth of bacteria or mold, and ensure the hummingbirds’ safety. The feeder is easy to disassemble into component parts, and a cleaning brush for the feeding ports is included with each order.
Depending on your placement and the area you live in, ants could be interested in accessing your nectar. Ants are small enough to get in through the flower ports and hummingbirds are not a fan of eating them either, so hummingbirds may stop coming to your feeder. If this is the case for you, we recommend you find a reputable brand that sells an ant moat (only the ones you fill with water, no chemical-based ones) and hang it on your feeder to prevent them from continuing to contaminate the nectar.
Currently, the only way to mount the feeder is with the metal hanger that is included in each order.
Squirrels might be curious about your new feeder, but because it contains nectar we have not seen any cases of them causing problems.
The Bird Buddy camera will last up to one month on a single charge depending on the mode you choose and will likely never need charging if the Solar Roof is included. Exact duration depends on usage and environmental factors. Battery life may vary due to bird activity, live stream usage, and local conditions, such as sunlight availability for solar charging or colder weather. You can read more about battery life here.
Yes, a 2.4 Ghz Wi-Fi connection is currently required in order to use your Bird Buddy.
Yes, all products are weatherproof. The camera module withstands temperatures ranging from -5°F to 120°F (-20°C to 50°C). It is also detachable, allowing you to easily remove and store it indoors on extreme weather days. We’ll notify you via an in-app notification if the camera approaches these limits so you can store it indoors for safe-keeping.
Due to the fact that hummingbirds are not found beyond the Americas, and with our current logistical constraints, the Smart Hummingbird Feeder is only available in the US.
